Suspect in Melaka child abuse case previously charged with assaulting wife

MELAKA – Melaka police have confirmed that a man suspected of child abuse in Taman Krubong Jaya here last week was previously charged with assaulting his wife.

The charge was made at the Ayer Keroh magistrates’ court last September.

State police chief Datuk Abdul Majid Mohd Ali told a press conference here that the force is in the midst of completing the investigation paper on the case, and will apply for a remand extension for the man and his wife.

The couple’s current remand, over the child abuse case, is scheduled to end tomorrow.

On September 8 last year, it was reported that the man claimed trial to a charge of intentionally causing injury to his wife.

The charge is under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same code.

On January 29, a 7-year-old boy died in Taman Krubong Jaya, believed to have been abused by his mother, 32, and stepfather, 38.

The child allegedly drowned in a tub at home in the 4pm incident, but preliminary investigations found injuries on his body.

The boy was buried at the Padang Lebar Muslim cemetery in Simpang Bekoh here on Monday. – Bernama, February 4, 2021
