KUALA LUMPUR – Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today announced that night markets, barbershops and car wash centres can operate until 10pm, provided that standard operating procedures are in place.

He said night markets are allowed to operate starting 4pm, with stalls placed 1m apart.

They must have only one entry point and one exit point, to be monitored by Rela personnel.

Barbershops can offer only haircuts, with facials and other services barred.

“Barbers must wear masks, and disposable aprons must be used for each customer. The tools used for cutting hair must be sanitised constantly,” Ismail Sabri told his daily briefing.

He also announced SOPs for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.

“Celebrations are only allowed at home among family members from the same household. This applies to prayer activities and reunion dinners.

“The public will not be able to attend prayer ceremonies at temples. But, five committee members from each temple will be allowed to conduct prayers.”

Cultural events associated with CNY, such as lion dance and Chinese opera, are not allowed, he said.

For Sarawak, which is not under the movement control order (MCO), Ismail Sabri said it is up to the state government to issue its own SOPs for the celebrations next week.

He said the enhanced MCO (EMCO) at the Pontian immigration depot, slated to end tomorrow, has been lifted today.

“After screening 408 individuals, and recording 125 infections, there are no samples currently awaiting results.

“We decided to end the EMCO today.” – The Vibes, February 4, 2021
