KUALA LUMPUR – The country’s daily Covid-19 caseload continues its drop in recent days, with 2,764 infections recorded today.
It is the first time since January 13 that fresh cases are below 3,000.
The latest figure takes Malaysia’s total to 248,316, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah told a press conference this evening.
He said another 13 coronavirus fatalities were registered, making for 909 deaths since the pandemic began.
The country also recorded 3,887 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 196,566. Six of today’s new cases are imported.
Of the active cases, 289 are under intensive care, while 127 require intubation.
Selangor recorded the highest number of infections at 862 cases, followed by Johor (521), Kuala Lumpur (422), Melaka (203), and Sabah (180).
Pulau Pinang recorded 119 cases, while Sarawak has 111; Negri Sembilan, 99; Kelantan, 62; Kedah, 59; Perak, 40; Terengganu, 34; Pahang, 32; and Putrajaya and Labuan, 10 each.
Perlis did not record any new case today.
Dr Noor Hisham said 51 cases today were from detention centres, involving the Tembok Sg Udang cluster (27), Tembok Renggam cluster (nine), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa cluster (eight), Jalan Harapan prison cluster (four), and Tembok Bukit Besi cluster (three).
He said the deaths today involved six cases in Selangor, two cases each in Sabah, Sarawak and Johor, and one in Kuala Lumpur.
“All cases involved citizens. The ministry extends its condolences to all their family members.”
Dr Noor Hisham said so far, the country has seen 920 clusters, including 12 new ones today.
A total of 461 clusters have ended, including four today comprising the Dewani, Iris, Jalan Stesen Construction Site and Kg Baharu clusters.
He said the country has 459 active clusters, with 93 clusters reporting new cases. The clusters with the highest number of new cases are the Industri Serkam cluster (156 cases), Senai City Lapan cluster (114) and Mayang Pasir cluster (52).
The ministry found that 11 of the 12 new clusters detected today are related to workplaces, while one is of a high-risk group.
In Selangor, the ministry reported that the Persiaran Puteri construction site cluster in Petaling district has 28 cases; the Subang Baru Engineering cluster, Petaling, has 15; and the Industri Mahkota cluster in Kuala Langat has 21.
Johor saw the Senai City Lapan cluster in Kulai and Johor Baru record 114 cases; the Besi Cyber cluster in Kulai with 28; the Jalan Parit Mesjit cluster in Muar with 23; and the Jalan Cyber 14 cluster in Kulai with 19.
Kuala Lumpur saw the Jalan Pantai construction site cluster in Lembah Pantai record 23 cases, and the Jalan Budiman cluster in Cheras with seven.
In Melaka, the Masjid Tanah Dialysis cluster was recorded in Alor Gajah, Melaka Tengah and Jasin, as well as the Rembau district in Negri Sembilan, with 22 cases.
Sabah saw the Hulu Jerocco cluster in Kinabatangan record 29 cases, while Negri Sembilan saw the Lengkok Emas cluster in Seremban record 55 cases. – The Vibes, February 9, 2021
