KUCHING – Rumah Naga Umpi, a longhouse 26km from Sibu, has been placed under a two-week lockdown.

A total of 44 families are said to be living in the longhouse.

The Sarawak Public Communications Unit in a Facebook post yesterday said the lockdown is necessary as 10 villagers have tested positive for Covid-19.

The contact source for the infection has yet to be ascertained.

Police have informed the village headman and villagers of the lockdown order.

Yesterday, Sarawak recorded 111 new Covid-19 cases, with two new deaths in Sibu.

The fatalities bring the death toll in the state to 55.

Meanwhile, the 111 new cases were detected in Sibu (54), Miri (21), Bintulu (12), Dalat (seven), Kanowit (six), Kapit (five), two each in Beluru and Kuching, and one each in Lawas and Betong.

This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 5,871 cases. – The Vibes, February 10, 2021
