KUALA LUMPUR – Veteran political analyst and economist Prof Hoo Kee Ping has died following a sudden heart attack at his home today.
Utusan Malaysia reported that the 69-year-old had been scheduled to appear as a panellist in a National Intellectual Organisation (Pintar) webinar titled “Vaccine: How far can it act as a saviour?” this evening.
Hoo was popular among journalists, who regularly sought his comments and insights, and was known to always be responsive and approachable.
Pintar president Prof Mohd Roslan Mohd Nor said Hoo, who was a group committee member, was an active individual willing to share his views through various platforms, whether WhatsApp, social media sites or mainstream media outlets.
“Recently, his view that an alliance involving Bersatu, Umno and PAS would win big in the 15th general election received huge coverage in the local media.
“Hoo was also an analyst and economic adviser at the KSI Strategic Institute, where he shared many views on the country’s economy, especially during the movement control order and state of emergency.”
He said Hoo’s death is a big loss to the people and country, adding that the expert was an attentive observer of economic affairs, and open to different perspectives and opinions.
Pintar has agreed to postpone the webinar upon learning of the death, he said. – The Vibes, February 13, 2021
