KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 2,176 fresh cases of Covid-19 today and 10 deaths, says Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham.
The new infections bring the cumulative number to 266,445 and the death toll to 975. In a statement, Dr Noor Hisham said only one new case reported today was imported.
The country also recorded 4,521 recoveries, bringing the total discharged Covid-19 patients to 218,335. He said 260 cases were under intensive care, while 112 required intubation.
Selangor again recorded the highest number of cases at 910, followed by Johor (269), Sarawak (246), Kuala Lumpur (182), Negeri Sembilan (145), Sabah (97), Pulau Pinang (91), and Perak (83).
Terengganu saw 53 cases, followed by Kedah (33), Kelantan (31), Pahang (15), Melaka (14), and Putrajaya (7). No new cases were recorded in Perlis and Labuan today.
Dr Noor Hisham said 64 cases were reported in detention centres involving the Tembok Bendera cluster (40 cases), Jalan Harapan prison cluster (18 cases), Tembok Tapah cluster (four cases), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (one case), and the Tembok Taiping cluster (one case).
He said five deaths occurred in Selangor, two in Kuala Lumpur and one each in Sabah, Johor, and Perak today. All of today’s fatalities involved Malaysian citizens.
Dr Noor Hisham said the country has seen 996 clusters, including 13 new clusters.
He said 507 cluster have ended, including eight today which consisted the Jalan Sibuga, Taman Tasik Sungai Chua, Jalan Bukit Bendera, Lumut Barat, Pagar Siput, Kampung Renok, Sungai Redan, and the Bah Manggis clusters.
He added that 68 active clusters reported new cases today.
The clusters that reported the highest number of cases are the Jalan Senai Utama cluster (131 cases), Tanjung Suria cluster (68 cases), and the Tembok Bendera cluster (40 cases).
Dr Noor Hisham noted that 10 out of the 13 new clusters today are workplace clusters, while the remaining three consisted of one community cluster, one detention centre cluster, and a high risk group cluster, respectively.
The new clusters in Selangor consisted the Jalan Bursa cluster in the Petaling and Klang districts with 22 cases, the Jalan Kepong cluster in Kuala Selangor with 23 cases, and the Jalan Tiga Belas in Petaling and Kuala Selangor with 11 cases, the Jalan Cheras cluster in Hulu Langat with 24 cases, and the Jalan Tropicana cluster in Petaling with 25 cases.
Johor recorded the Jalan Senai Utama cluster in Kulai with 131 cases, while Kuala Lumpur saw the Jalan Jinjang cluster in Kepong with 12 cases.
Pulau Pinang recorded the Persiaran Mutiara cluster in Timur Laut with 14 cases and the Jalan Baru cluster in Seberang Perai Tengah and Utara with 22 cases, while Terengganu saw the Guntong Dalam cluster in Setiu and Besut with 43 cases, as well as the Pengkalan Teras cluster in Besut with 29 cases.
Melaka logged the Teknologi Lot Enam cluster in Melaka Tengah, Jasin and Alor Gajah with 24 cases, while Perak recorded the Tembok Tapah cluster in Batang Padang with 64 cases.
