FOLLOWING reports that 33 countries have urged their citizens to stock up on food and drinking water, attention has now turned to Malaysia’s response.
Addressing the matter, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Malaysia does not need to issue a similar call, as supplies of necessities are sufficient for at least the next six months.
“The government consistently ensures that the nation’s food security remains at a sound level, while also guaranteeing an adequate supply of necessities for the people and all individuals currently in the country.
“We do not see a need for that, as food security and stock levels are sufficient,” he said.
Zahid also clarified that the country is not in a state of emergency—in fact, it is far from such a situation.
“We are not in a state of emergency, and—God willing—we are far from any such state,” he said. – November 3, 2026
