KUALA LUMPUR – Perak PKR deputy chairman M.A. Thinagaran was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Ipoh this morning, according to a source from the anti-graft body.
The source did not disclose the reason behind the arrest, although it is understood to be in relation to a project in the state.
He was detained after being questioned by the MACC at its office earlier today to assist the investigation.
In a statement later, Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak urged all quarters to remain calm and not to make assumptions.
“Hopefully his (Thinagaran’s) family will remain patient in facing this adversity, and so will his friends and loyal supporters.
“We hope the investigation will be done transparently and the legal process will run smoothly and without any interference,” he said.
Thinagaran was elected into the Perak PKR Central Leadership Council for the 2018-2021 term as Perak PKR deputy chairman on January 9, 2019. – The Vibes, February 16, 2021
