BANGI – The Higher Education Ministry has given an assurance that no one from the six categories of students allowed to return to campus starting March 1 will be asked to return home.

Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad said the student registration process will be carried out in compliance with the standard operating procedures set by the National Security Council and Health Ministry.

“Inshaallah, my ministry and the universities will ensure that all students returning to campus are granted entry,” she told reporters after a visit to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia yesterday.

”We will make sure that there is no issue of students being ordered to go home upon returning to campus, and we hope that the registration process will run smoothly and properly this time around.”

Last October, university students, upon arriving at the respective campuses, were ordered to return home after the ministry postponed in-person registration for the 2020/21 academic session following a spike in Covid-19 cases.

Noraini said students who wish to stay home can continue to do so, as teaching and learning sessions will still be held in a hybrid format, combining face-to-face and online lessons.

The students from the six categories allowed to return to campus include certificate, diploma, bachelor’s and postgraduate students who need to conduct practical work at laboratories, workshops and studios. – Bernama, February 18, 2021
