PARTI Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) has effectively closed the door on reconciliation with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) after the party contested against Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the recent Negeri Sembilan state election and signalled its willingness to work with Pakatan Harapan (PH) ahead of the Melaka polls.
PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said Bersatu's actions had left little room for restoring political ties between the two parties.
“Yes lah, basically they (Bersatu) fought us in the Negeri Sembilan state election. And there are statements about wanting to join, to be with PH,” he told reporters after delivering a duha lecture at Rusila Mosque in Marang, today.
The Marang MP was responding to a question on whether the door to reconciliation with Bersatu was now closed.
On June 8, PAS' Central Working Committee decided to end its political cooperation with Bersatu after reviewing the status and direction of ties between the two parties based on current reports, studies and assessments.
In the Negeri Sembilan state election on Aug 1, Bersatu contested under its own logo after it was not involved in PN's seat-allocation discussions.
Meanwhile, Bersatu Melaka information chief Hishamuddin Abdul Karim was reported as saying that the party was open to discussions with other parties that shared common ground, including PH, ahead of the Melaka state election.
However, he said any electoral cooperation must exclude parties that had betrayed the trust and spirit of cooperation established within PN.
PAS and Bersatu remain members of PN. - August 28, 2026
