GEORGE TOWN – Malaysians need to be united against the coronavirus to keep infection rates low, said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today as the country is seeing a rise in Covid-19 cases.

Calling on Malaysians to be resilient and diligent, he said one of the most important things is to stay united so the outbreak will not split communities and cause discontent.

“We must stay together to fight this virus. We must help each other,” he said at a fundraising appeal by the Penang Salvation Army here.

He also said the government has to make divisive decisions that may cause dissatisfaction among the people.

When asked why he was not present at the special Covid-19 meeting held the day before, Chow said there were many special meetings and sometimes, they would require all state leaders to attend.

When asked if Penang borders will be closed due to the spike of infections in other states, particularly neighbouring Kedah, he said Penang will follow the directive from the federal government.

Later, Chow presented a mock cheque of RM10,000 from the state to the Penang Salvation Army. – The Vibes, October 3, 2020
