MALAYSIA is welcoming increased investment from Bahrain and stands ready to broaden bilateral cooperation across multiple strategic sectors, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced.
In a statement posted on X following a meeting with Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Anwar highlighted key areas targeted for expansion, including healthcare, Islamic finance, technology, tourism, food security, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and smart manufacturing.
The meeting took place during Prince Salman’s visit to Malaysia in conjunction with the 2026 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix hosted at the Sepang International Circuit.
Anwar noted that Malaysian enterprises are equally prepared to use Bahrain as a strategic entry point to the wider Gulf Cooperation Council market to drive mutual economic prosperity.
He stated that both leaders discussed expediting senior officials’ consultations to activate the High-Level Joint Committee and advance their shared bilateral goals, aligning Malaysia’s Madani Economy framework with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
The Prime Minister extended his gratitude to Bahrain and the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile for supporting the return of Formula 1 racing to Sepang for the first time since 2017. He praised the swift collaboration between the Bahrain International Circuit, Sepang International Circuit, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports in preparing for the event.

In a separate update, Anwar shared details of his visit to the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS team pit at Sepang, where he met Team Principal Toto Wolff and Malaysian professionals contributing expertise to the team. He extended his best wishes to the drivers and crew for the race weekend, noting the special significance of competing at Sepang for the Malaysian-sponsored team. - October 4, 2026
