GEORGE TOWN – Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has received the first of two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine at Penang General Hospital this morning, with 11 others as the state began its inoculation campaign.
The others who received the jab were Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, Deputy Chief Minister II P. Ramasamy, state secretary Datuk Abdul Razak Jaafar, state Health Director Datuk Dr Asmayani Khalib, state police chief Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan as well as Penang Infrsstructure Corporation CEO Datuk Seri Farizan Darus.
Six others were frontliners working at the hospital here.
“I am very happy that this immunisation launch has started smoothly. We represent Penangites to step forward to take the vaccine.”
He said that the state will be receiving 62,000 doses in total for 31,000 frontliners in the first phase of vaccination.
The state is expecting to receive another five batches in the near future to complete the first phase.
“I hope Penangites will register for vaccinations on the MySejahtera app to support this Covid-19 immunisation programme.
“We have gone through one year of the pandemic and faced many challenges.
“But I want to advise that with this vaccination, we still need to follow public health measures that are still in place.”
Chow will be taking his second dose in 21 days.
Dr Asmayani said 318 frontliners have already been vaccinated ahead of today’s launch.
“Public hospitals in Penang that are conducting the vaccination have received their vaccine supply.”
As of yesterday, Penang has a total of 11,135 Covid-19 infections and 17 deaths. – The Vibes, February 28, 2021
