ALOR STAR – Kedah kicked off its Covid-19 vaccination drive today, with Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor being the first recipient of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
A total of 1.76 million people in the state will be vaccinated, with 25,000 people targeted for inoculation before the end of April.
Sanusi said that the Pfizer vaccines, which cost RM25,000, will be distributed in Kota Setar, Kuala Muda and Langkawi immediately.
“The second phase will start in April and by February 2022, we will have completed the third phase,” said Sanusi who received the vaccine at Wisma Darul Aman.
Others to receive the first dose of the vaccine today were Kedah health exco Datuk Dr Hayati Othman, state Health Department director Dr Muhammad Fikri Ujang and three frontliners.
“I strongly recommend people get vaccinated as medical experts have guaranteed (the) safety (of the vaccines),” he said.
He advised people to register for the vaccinations via the Mysejahtera app, adding that Covid-19 cases in the state had reduced drastically with only 15 to 17 new cases recorded over the past few days.
Infections are also mainly concentrated among employees in the manufacturing and construction sector. – The Vibes, February 28, 2021
