SANDAKAN – Five schools here will be closed for two weeks starting tomorrow due to possible Covid-19 cases.
Sandakan education officer Dalmansa Tahil told The Vibes that the schools will be closed but refused to comment further as other information will be announced by the Health Ministry.
The five schools affected are SMK Elopura, SMK Tinusa, SMK Merpati, SMK Muhibbah and SK Merpati.
Earlier, a letter from Sandakan health office recommending school closures was circulated on WhatsApp.
The letter issued to the education office dated October 3, suggested closing the five schools due to possible Covid-19 cases, and that disinfection process needed to take place immediately.
Dalmansa asked the public, especially parents to not panic and obey the SOP set by the Health Ministry.
Meanwhile, more than 300 mini bus drivers here are required to take Covid-19 swab test tomorrow at the community hall as instructed by Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB).
CVLB chairman Datuk Chin Kim Hiung said its Sandakan office has issued the directive following a request from the health office today.
“All mini bus operators are required to take the Covid-19 swab test conducted by the Sandakan health office without fail beginning from 9am on Monday.”
Sandakan Mini Bus Association chairman Mohd Harun Ramli said the matter has been informed to all mini bus drivers through a WhatsApp group.
He said the drivers will give their full cooperation.
“We are worried as there was a mini bus driver who reportedly contracted Covid-19. So, the swab test is a good thing. At least, we will have peace of mind when doing our job,” he said. – The Vibes, October 4, 2020
