[UPDATED] Covid-19 recoveries outpace new cases for 2nd straight day

KUALA LUMPUR – The nation registered 2,154 new Covid-19 infections today, 3,275 recoveries and six deaths. 

In total, recoveries stand at 286,094, while positive cases are at 310,097. 

Active cases currently number 22,034, with 184 receiving treatment in intensive care units (ICUs) and 87 requiring ventilators.

Selangor recorded the highest number of infections today at 794, followed by Johor (463), Sarawak (250), Penang (119), Perak (109), and Kuala Lumpur (108).

The states with fewer than 100 cases are Sabah (97), Negri Sembilan (77), Kelantan (57), Pahang (38), Terengganu (16), Melaka (10), Kedah (9), Putrajaya (4), Labuan (2), and Perlis (1).

The new deaths are all Malaysians, and all but one have comorbidities. Five occurred in Selangor, with the victims aged between 55 and 87, while the Johor patient was 52 years old.

The country also recorded 10 new clusters – Selangor (4), Kuala Lumpur (2), and one each in Negri Sembilan, Penang, Perak and Sabah.

Selangor’s new clusters have detected a total of 67 cases – namely the Jalan Zamrud construction site (21), Jalan Datuk Sellathevan (21), Industri Cheras Jaya (14), and Meranti Utama (11) clusters.

Meanwhile, Penang’s Perusahaan 10 cluster in Seberang Prai was detected after a targeted screening of factory workers in Prai Industrial Estate. Of the 372 people screened, 57 tested positive.

The Kg Nyatoh cluster in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, involves an education centre, with 74 testing positive after 193 individuals were screened.

The Jalan Senu cluster in Larut, Matang and Selama in Perak was detected after a religious event on February 19. After 52 people were screened, 10 were found to be infected.

Lastly, the Kuala Punteh cluster in Keningau, Sabah comprised 25 villagers testing positive after 132 individuals were screened. – The Vibes, March 5, 2021
