KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is urging MPs, including Sekijang’s Natrah Ismail, to lodge reports if they are being offered enticement to switch camps.
In a statement today, the anti-graft body said this follows allegations, which have been widely shared on social media, of parliamentarians being bribed.
“Individuals approached should lodge a report in accordance with Section 25 of the MACC Act 2009. MACC is ready to investigate such complaints.”
On Thursday, PKR’s Natrah claimed that she had been approached by two “Datuk Seri” individuals, who had enticed her to switch camps to support Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
She said she was approached on Wednesday by two people offering benefits if she declares support for the prime minister.
“I told them I wasn’t interested and rejected their offer. For me, there is no benefit in turning away from the reformasi struggle and breaking the oath I took when I became an MP.”
Natrah has reported the matter to the PKR leadership.
“I believe that there are attempts to offer gifts and positions, or urge and threaten PKR and opposition MPs.
“Clearly, the minority government today is ready to do anything except advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to convene an immediate parliamentary sitting,” she said referring to the Perikatan Nasional ruling coalition.
Yesterday, Putatan MP Awang Husaini Sahari, also of PKR, said he was approached by two “agents”, who attempted to persuade him to defect.
Since the Sheraton Move last year, he said he has been approached by several individuals to persuade him to declare support for Muhyiddin.
“In exchange for that support, I was promised many things. But I have rejected every offer and will not betray the reformasi struggle. My support is with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and PKR.”
Awang Husaini urged such individuals to stop fishing for support as he cannot be bought.
Recently, PKR lost two of its MPs – Larry Sng (Julau) and Steven Choong (Tebrau) – after they defected and declared themselves government-friendly independents. – The Vibes, March 6, 2021
