KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 1,448 fresh Covid-19 cases today and five deaths, said the Health Ministry.

The new infections bring the cumulative number to 317,717 and the death toll to 1,191.

In a statement on Twitter, the ministry said 2,147 recoveries were recorded, pushing the total discharged to 298,516.

Ten of the cases detected today are imported.

It also said 151 cases are under intensive care, while 72 required breathing assistance.

Selangor recorded the highest number of daily cases at 561, followed by Johor (273), Sarawak (199), and Kuala Lumpur (103).

Pulau Pinang logged 99 cases, followed by Kedah (21), Kelantan (19), Melaka (11), Terengganu (eight), Perlis (seven) and Pahang (one).

Labuan and Putrajaya did not have any new cases.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 15 cases were recorded in detention centres involving the Tembok Pengkalan Chepa cluster (five cases), Telok Mas cluster (five), DTI Persiaran Wawasan cluster (two), Tembok Taiping cluster (onw), Tembok Tapah cluster (one), and the Tembok Bendera cluster (one).

He added that two deaths were recorded in Selangor and one each in Johor, Melaka, and Sabah.

The country has detected a total of 1,217 clusters, including five new ones today.

Two new clusters are related to worksites, another two are from community infections while one came from an imported case.

Selangor logged the Sg Puteh cluster in the Hulu Langat district with 21 cases, and the Dagang Permai cluster in the same district with 16 cases.

Johor has the Parit Penyengat Darat cluster in Muar with 124 cases, while the Pona cluster in Johor Baru has eight cases.

Sarawak’s Melor cluster in Pusa has 14 cases.

Some 768 clusters have ended, including 13 today – Dialisis Batu, Intan Mas, Kupang, the Jalan Nipah construction site, Sri Gading, Jalan Ithnin, Padas Damit, Kg Samin, Seri Bayu, Industri Grisek, Jalan Suasa, Kg Lukut, and Jalan Satu KKIP.

A total of 449 clusters remain active and 59 clusters recorded new cases. The clusters with most new cases are the Jalan Zamrud construction site (151 cases), Parit Penyengat Darat (123). and Jalan Changkat Jong (49). – The Vibes, March 10, 2021
