KUALA LUMPUR – Like many on social media, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has hinted that the latest defection by Kuala Langat MP Datuk Xavier Jayakumar is linked to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) recent investigation.

In a Facebook post today, Najib uploaded three screenshots of news reports, one detailing an MACC investigation into Perak PKR deputy chairman Datuk M.A. Tinagaran, whom Xavier had described as a family friend.

Another screenshot confirms the anti-graft body’s investigations into Xavier, and the third, a report of his exit from PKR.

Najib’s post comes after Xavier announced his resignation as PKR vice-president and member, opting to support the Perikatan Nasional government as an independent MP instead.

His departure from PKR makes him the third parliamentarian to cross over in the past weeks, with Julau MP Larry Sng and Tebrau MP Steven Choong also exiting the party to support Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration.

Last week, Pakatan Harapan’s presidential council in a statement slammed PN’s tactics of using enforcement agencies to intimidate opposition MPs to get them to defect. – The Vibes, March 13, 2021
