BUKIT MERTAJAM – A 62-year-old man was found dead after allegedly committing suicide at a public hospital here last night.

Seberang Prai Tengah police chief Shafee Abd Samad said the patient was admitted to the Covid-19 screening ward on Sunday as he had low blood pressure, pneumonia and hepatitis C.

The man also had a history of psychiatric treatment and was on methadone for his heroin addiction, he added.

“A witness, who is a patient at the ward, said he saw the victim pull out a drip from his arm and walk towards the corridor at 11pm.”

Shafee said the hospital received a report that a patient fell from the building at 11.20pm.

The victim was immediately taken to the emergency ward. However, as he suffered a serious head wound, he was pronounced dead.

“The investigation found no criminal elements at the scene. There are also no CCTVs near the wards,” Shafee said.

“The body has been sent to the forensic division of Bukit Mertajam Hospital for a post-mortem.” – The Vibes, March 16, 2021
