KALABAKAN – Sebatik assemblyman Hassan A Gani Pg Amir dismissed allegations he had been paid as much as RM10 million to quit Parti Warisan Sabah.
He said the decision to leave the party and support the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition as an independent was made out of his own free will, adding that it was also made in the best interest of his constituents.
“This allegation is baseless, and I have clarified why I quit the party. It does not change the political landscape at all, including having any bearing on the formation of the (state) government. There is no such offer,” he told reporters here today.
He was met at a programme held with Sebatik grassroots leaders and constituents, which he said was organised to explain his decision to become an independent assemblyman who supports the ruling state government.
On State Speaker Datuk Kadzim M Yahya’s decision not to accept Hassan’s resignation from the seat, Hassan said it was based on legal provisions.
“I signed the letter before receiving the letter as a candidate, at that time I had no choice and that also happened with other candidates who signed the letter and read the pledge.”
“Apart from having no date (when signed), the letter only has my own signature without involving the other party and this means I can revoke the letter without having to involve the other party,” he said.
On February 25, in an interview with Bernama, Hassan announced that he had quit Warisan, saying that he was disillusioned with the party for focusing too much on politicking instead of working on issues faced by the people due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. – Bernama, March 16, 2021
