KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today logged 1,213 fresh Covid-19 infections, with Selangor again topping the list at 353 cases.
This takes the cumulative number of cases in the country to 328,466, the Health Ministry said.
Three deaths were also recorded, taking the death toll to the deadly virus to 1,223.
There were also 1,503 recoveries since yesterday and 155 cases in intensive care, with 54 requiring breathing support.
After Selangor, the states that recorded more than 100 cases are Sarawak with 303 infections, Johor (142) and Penang (104).
Kuala Lumpur recorded 79 cases, followed by Sabah (73), Perak (39), Kedah (38), Negri Sembilan (23), Kelantan (20), Terengganu (15) and Pahang (14).
Melaka recorded eight cases and Labuan saw two. Putrajaya and Perlis did not log any new cases today.
He said 142 cases today were related to detention centres involving the Semuja Immigration Depot cluster (99 cases), Jalan Harapan prison cluster (32), Tembok Mempaga cluster (4), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa cluster (2), Tembok Taiping cluster (2), Jalan Awang cluster (2) and Tembok Tapah cluster (2).
He said Sabah, Sarawak and Kelantan recorded one death each, all of which involved Malaysians.
Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said total number of clusters stand at 1,276, including the nine new clusters today.
Clusters that have ended stand at 848, including 10 today – Kg Jawek, Jalan Usaha Satu, Jalan Seelong, Jalan Gemilang Lima, Kg Tandak, Gong Nering, Taman Mahkota Impian, Matambai, Kejuruteraan Subang Baru and Jalan Valdor construction site.
He said 428 clusters remained active and 66 clusters saw new cases. The cluster with the most new infections are the Semuja Immigration Depot cluster (99 cases), Jalan Wawasan Sembilan cluster (47) and Jalan Harapan prison cluster (32).
Dr Noor Hisham said five out of the nine new clusters today were related to workplaces, three were from the community, and one from a detention centre.
Selangor detected the Persiaran Setia cluster in Petaling with 18 cases, and the Persiaran Sunsuria cluster in Sepang with 11 cases.
Johor logged the Jalan Wawasan Sembilan cluster in Batu Pahat and Kluang with 50 cases, while Sabah logged the Melamam cluster in Sipitang with 14 cases, as well as the Kg Padang Tembak cluster in Keningau with 21 cases.
Sarawak logged the Sg Atap cluster in Meradong with 19 cases and the Semuja Immigration Depot cluster in Serian with 99 cases.
Perak recorded the Jalan Asuhan cluster in Kerian with 12 cases, while Kedah detected the Bunga Tg Bendahara cluster in Kota Setar and Kuala Muda with 10 cases. – The Vibes, March 18, 2021
