KOTA KINABALU – After losing all state assembly seats in the Sabah election last year, Sabah MCA is now attempting a return, aiming to generate its impact on the people with a focussed community role.
Its chief Lu Yen Tung has announced the establishment of four Community Development Leadership units and the appointment of Community Development leaders @ PPMs (from Pemimpin Pembangunan Masyarakat in Malay).
The four community leaders are himself (in Kapayan state constituency); Dr Chang Kee Ying (Likas), Datuk Chew Kok Woh (Karamunting); and Ng Boon Leng (Elopura).
Lu, Dr Chang, and Chew were the party’s election candidates for their respective constituencies in the state polls held in September last year.
They had lost to rival parties DAP (in Kapayan and Likas) and Warisan (in Karamunting).
“Sabah MCA’s four newly-appointed PPMs will be working hard to deliver their best to their constituents.
“Even though MCA lost in the last state election, the party’s leaders and team will continue to play their roles in serving the communities in Sabah,” said Lu yesterday.
He stressed that the party is well established in Sabah and has been in the state for 30 years.
Each PPM office has been already set up and will create more channels, including on social media through which they will reach out to the communities, he added.
Although the state election is not due for another five years, it has been speculated that it may be held earlier together with Malaysia’s general election which must be conducted by September 2023. – The Vibes, March 20, 2021
