GEORGE TOWN – The RM500 financial assistance for sports entrepreneurs in Penang has been extended until April 15 to encourage and allow operators to complete their applications.
It was originally due to end on March 15.
Penang Youth and Sports exco Soon Lip Chee said he had proposed extending the deadline in the state exco meeting yesterday, and the motion was approved by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
“The Penang government announced a special financial assistance of RM500 on a one-off basis to operators of sports and fitness activities registered with local authorities under the Penang People's Assistance Package 3.1 in February.
"Based on local authority records, there are 194 sports entrepreneurs in Penang, including those operating bowling, snooker, yoga, zumba, aerobics, gymnastics, futsal, badminton, gymnasium, go-kart motorsport, paintball and sports education businesses.”
A total of 128 applications were received by the local authority as of March 15. Twenty-five applications were from the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and 103 from Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP).
All registered sports and recreational activity operators are encouraged to apply for the RM500 one-off payment under the Penang People’s Aid Package 3.1
"For applications with complete documents submitted before March 15, the local authority has made the payment on March 16, 2021,” Soon said in a statement today.
However, this assistance is only applicable for operators and not sports coaches.
Those interested in applying for the one-off payment can do so online for businesses on Penang island and in Seberang Prai. – The Vibes, March 25, 2021
