IPOH – The Perak Information Department is aiming to register 90% of its Orang Asli community for Covid-19 vaccination through the Info on Wheels programme (IoW).
Its director Mohd Taip Ubah said IoW will kick-start tomorrow at Kg Sg Karah, Lenggong, before venturing to other places that have been identified.
“We understand that the number of those from the Orang Asli community who have registered is rather low, so we hope to create better awareness on Covid-19 vaccine registration through IoW and public information centres (PMRs).
“The Perak Mentri Besar had also expressed the need for coordination at the state level as well as between the state and federal agencies for the vaccination programme to be well implemented,” he told a press conference after an event at the Perak Urban Transformation Centre today.
He said to get Orang Asli in Perak to sign up for the vaccine, the Information Department is also working with the Orang Asli Development Department, Health Ministry, the police, Mentri Besar’s Office, and several other agencies.
Elaborating on the PMRs, Taip said their role is to disseminate the latest information and provide computer and internet facilities to help people register for vaccination.
“There are 14 PMR branches including in Ipoh, and their presence in their respective districts is to support the Information Department’s efforts in raising public awareness on the importance of getting vaccinated.
On March 22, Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said that to date, only 21.1% (406,380 people) of the state population has registered for the vaccine via the MySejahtera app. – Bernama, March 26, 2021
