KOTA BARU – The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) will be enforced in certain areas in Kelantan based on Covid-19 data only from time to time, said state Health Department director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin.
However, he added, the department prefers to not implement EMCO as it will have many adverse effects, especially on the economy.
“It could cause a lot of concerns, but what is most important is for the public to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“But if necessary, EMCO will be implemented.
“I believe enforcement is one of the ways to discipline people to adhere to SOPs. This is the new norm that we need to practise.”
On the rise of coronavirus cases in Kelantan, Dr Zaini said it could be due to members of the public not adhering to SOPs.
He said Kelantan yesterday was the third state with the highest number of Covid-19 cases, with 138 fresh infections, after Sarawak and Selangor, bringing the cumulative number of cases in the state to 6,066.
“The drop in cases in Kelantan previously has resulted in people ignoring SOPs. Whether it’s a feast, tahlil or gathering, the most important thing is to adhere to SOPs.” – Bernama, March 28, 2021
