LANGKAWI – The island here, long a popular travel destination, continues to attract investors despite Covid-19, said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Langkawi MP acknowledged the decline in tourist arrivals due to the pandemic, but said investors are optimistic about the future of the island’s tourism industry.
“Many people are keen to invest in Langkawi. Although there are no tourists at the moment, they (investors) have high hopes for the future.
“The authorities responsible for approving investments should act quickly, so that we are prepared when tourists return to Langkawi again,” he told reporters after a walkabout at Pantai Chenang here today.
The former prime minister said some potential investors are looking at opening hotels, shopping malls and factory outlets. – Bernama, March 30, 2021
