KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 1,482 fresh Covid-19 cases today, up by more than 300 infections from yesterday’s caseload of 1,133.
On Twitter, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the cumulative number of cases to 345,500.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 661, followed by Penang (200), Sarawak (176), Johor (86), and Sabah (69).
Kelantan saw 57 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (42), Melaka (41), Kedah (37), Pahang (36), Negri Sembilan (32), and Perak (31).
Labuan detected eight cases, followed by Putrajaya (3), Terengganu (2), and Perlis (1).
The country also recorded seven fatalities today, pushing the death toll to 1,272 cases.
He said the four deaths recorded today were in Selangor, while Johor, Sarawak, and Sabah recorded one death each. Five of the deaths involved locals, and another two were non-citizens.
Total recoveries are at 1,070 cases, bringing the total discharged to 329,624.
Two of today’s new cases were imported, both of which involved foreigners.
Of the 14,604 active cases, 164 are under intensive care while 81 required breathing assistance.
Dr Noor Hisham said 39 of the cases today involved those in detention centres: the Telok Mas cluster (19 cases), Tembok Tapah (7), Tembok Muhasabah (5), Jalan Harapan (3), Pagar Bukit Chagar (2), Semuja immigration depot (2), and Tembok Bukit Besi (1).
So far, the country has seen a total of 1,372 clusters, including 13 new clusters today.
Of the 370 active clusters, 66 recorded new cases. The clusters with the highest new cases are the Persiaran Cybersouth (196), Jalan Jelawat (88), and Subang Dua (46) clusters.
Dr Noor Hisham said seven of the new clusters today are workplace-related clusters, while five were from the community, with the remaining one from a high-risk group.
Selangor recorded the Hevea Scruciana cluster in Petaling and Klang with 55 cases, and the Jalan Rasmi cluster in Gombak, Hulu Langat, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Petaling, and Sepang with 58 cases. The Jalan Rasmi cluster was also detected in Cheras in Kuala Lumpur and recorded 58 cases.
Sarawak logged the Jalan Kingsway cluster in Miri with 51 cases, the Bulatan Aman cluster in Sibu with 43 cases, as well as the Jalan Baji cluster in Sarikei with 20 cases.
In Penang, the Jalan Jelawat cluster was recorded in Seberang Perai with 145 cases. This cluster also involved some infections in Kerian, Perak.
Kedah logged the Delima Baiduri cluster in Kuala Muda with 10 cases; the Emas Bemban cluster in Baling and Sik with six cases; and the Layar cluster in Kota Setar and Kuala Muda with 10 cases. Labuan saw the Pulau Enoe cluster with eight cases.
Sabah detected the Kg Bari Pasir Putih cluster in Kalabakan and Tawau with eight cases; and the Rimbayan cluster in Keningau with 15 cases.
Finally, Johor recorded the Lorong Mulia cluster in Johor Baru with nine cases.
Clusters that have ended are at 1,002, including 12 today: Jalan Utarid, Jalan Ulu Choh, Jalan Wawasan 16, Jalan PKNK 3/3, Parit Haji Khamis, Taman Mawar, Pulau Rusa, Ria Jaya, Perdana, Industri Mahkota, Jalan DPB Lima, and Jalan Perubatan. – The Vibes, March 31, 2021
