KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today logged 1,178 fresh Covid-19 cases, a sizeable drop from yesterday’s 1,482, said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The health director-general, in a tweet, said the latest infections take the country’s total to 346,678.
There are another six coronavirus fatalities, driving up the death toll to 1,278.
The nation also registered 1,178 new recoveries, making for a total of 331,001.
Sarawak leads the daily tally with 238 cases, followed by Selangor (237), Penang (190), Johor (165) and Kuala Lumpur (101).
States with fewer than 100 cases are Sabah (86), Negri Sembilan (34), Kedah (32), Perak (31), Kelantan (27) and Pahang (14).
Those with cases in the single digits are Melaka (9), Labuan (7), Terengganu (6) and Putrajaya (1).
Perlis recorded no new infections.
Among Covid-19 patients, 163 are in intensive care, of whom 81 require respiratory assistance.
Another six clusters were detected today, making for an overall 1,378, of which 362 are active.
Fourteen clusters, meanwhile, were declared ended.
Of the fresh clusters, Jalan Sg Ramal in Hulu Langat district, Selangor, involves students at two learning institutions in Jalan Sg Ramal and Taman Sri Kenari, Kajang. Fifteen of the 312 individuals screened tested positive for Covid-19.
The Bukit Serdang cluster in Hulu Langat and Petaling was detected following targeting screening among workers of a factory in Taman Bukit Serdang in Seri Kembangan. It has 29 cases out of 184 people tested.
Penang’s Jalan Teluk Kumbar cluster, detected at an education institution in Bandar Baru Teluk Kumbar, Bayan Lepas, Barat Daya, has 12 infections out of 262 people screened.
In Johor, the Kait Gading cluster came about following testing among workers of a factory in Jalan Wawasan 16 in the Sri Gading industrial area in Batu Pahat. Of the 429 people screened, 65 tested positive.
In the Johor capital is the Jalan Permas Cetak cluster involving a factory in Jalan Permas Jaya 9/13 in Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, Masai. Twenty-three individuals were screened, of whom nine were found to be infected.
The last of the new clusters is Taman Emas in Pahang’s Lipis district, where 16 infections were found out of 172 invidivuals screened. – The Vibes, April 1, 2021
