KUALA LUMPUR – After recording a 2021 record low of 941 Covid-19 cases on Monday, fresh infections continue to linger above the 1,000-mark, with 1,294 cases clocked today.
On a positive note, 1,442 positive individuals have recovered from the virus.
Selangor recorded the highest number of infections today with 455, more than one-third of all new cases, followed by Sarawak (217), Penang (139), Johor (103), Kuala Lumpur (88), Kelantan (66) and Sabah (63).
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the latest figures take the overall number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 347,972.
Cumulatively, Selangor now has 116,770 infections, more than double the state with the second highest number of 54,916 (Sabah).
According to Dr Noor Hisham, of the fresh infections, 388 involved foreign nationals. There were 26 imported cases, of which 17 were foreigners.
The country also recorded five new deaths, bringing the total to 1,283 mortalities due to Covid-19, while 168 individuals are currently admitted to the intensive care unit, with 78 of them requiring ventilator support.
Dr Noor Hisham said the ministry has identified 10 new clusters today, of which seven involve workplaces.
They are the Banjaran Gading (Sabah), Simpang Empat (Sabah), Industri Bukit Angkat (Selangor), Jalan Taat (Johor), Jalan Bukit Nanas (Kuala Lumpur), Jalan Padang (Negri Sembilan) and Wakaf Chagak (Terengganu) clusters.
Two other clusters involve the community – Kalindukan (Sabah) and Permatang Pasir (Negri Sembilan) – while the remaining one is a high-risk group, namely Pekan Batu (Selangor). – The Vibes, April 2, 2021
