GEORGE TOWN – Penang will see to it that its development corporation continues to open new industrial estates in the state to ensure steady growth.
“The spillover effects from what Penang Development Corporation (PDC) does in creating industrial estates is tremendous to the state – from property development to retail, and food and beverage to the services sector,” said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow after a PDC workshop at the Batu Kawan Industrial Park 2 here.
Since its 52 years of inception, PDC has become the main catalyst in promoting economic growth in Penang.
Chow highlighted the industrial estates that PDC has developed – Mak Mandin, Prai, Bayan Lepas, Seberang Jaya, Bukit Tengah, Bukit Minyak, Penang Science Park, Penang Science (Northern) Park and Batu Kawan.
Batu Kawan Industrial Park 2 is the 10th such industrial area in the state.
Chow said aside from the incentives provided by the federal government, Penang, via PDC, also offers incentives that will boost the state’s competitive edge.
Among them, he said, are reducing red tape, an efficient delivery system, proper infrastructure, social amenities, as well as good terms for land or property lease agreements.
He added that the state wants to strengthen PDC’s role by pushing for it to extend the leasehold of land to up to 60 years, provide guarded industrial estates with enhanced security and safety, upgrade its delivery system services and have efficient maintenance costs.
He also called for Invest Penang to work closely with PDC in luring more investors to the state. – The Vibes, April 4, 2021
