KOTA KINABALU – Jobless Sabahans have been urged to come forward and apply for available reskilling courses at the state Human Resources Department, said Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Yakub Khan today.
He said he has instructed the department to offer and introduce new skill-based courses for those who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic.
“We realise there are many people who lost their jobs because of the pandemic.
“We want them to not be shy or embarrassed about their situation, but come forward and visit us at the Human Resource Department for courses,” he told reporters after attending his mandate luncheon here.
Even before the Covid-19 pandemic that started early last year, Sabah has had the highest unemployment rate in the country, standing at 5.8% in 2019. The rate is expected to be higher now.
Yakub, however, said his ministry has yet to receive the statistics for those laid off during the pandemic, saying his focus is on those unemployed. – The Vibes, April 5, 2021
