KOTA KINABALU – To get more Sabahans to register for the Covid-19 vaccine, the state government has tapped into grassroots units to reach out to those in the interior.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor said the state government will rope in community development leaders to explain the benefit of the shot to people in rural areas, where access to information is scarce.
“I was made to understand that some people are either afraid, unconvinced or do not fully comprehend (the benefit of vaccination). There are also those who have fallen prey to fake news.
“They must not be neglected, but instead given a clear explanation on the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive.
“They need to hear credible testimonies based on the narrative of frontliners and leaders,” he said after an engagement session with the Covid-19 Emergency Technical Management Committee at The Magellan Sutera here today.
Only 362,514, or 12.4%, of the targeted 2.9 million individuals in Sabah have registered for the vaccine as of yesterday.
The state has dispensed 67,808 Covid-19 vaccines as of April 1. This is part of the 104,130 doses it has received under Phase 1 of the immunisation programme.
