KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia registered 1,285 fresh Covid-19 infections today, bringing the national tally to 355,753.
Selangor leads with the highest number of new cases at 374, followed by Sarawak (211), Penang (162), Kuala Lumpur (120), Sabah (106) and Johor (101).
States with fewer than 100 cases are Kelantan (87), Kedah (31), Perak (24), Putrajaya (19), Pahang and Negri Sembilan (12) each, Melaka and Terengganu (11) each, Labuan (3) and Perlis (1).
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 105 of the 1,285 new cases are related to clusters at prisons and immigration detention centres, namely the Jalan Harapan prison (89), Tembok Sri Aman (6), Pagar Bukit Chagar (4), Tembok Taiping (2), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (2), Tembok Mempaga (1) and Tembok Tapah (1) clusters.
The country recorded 1,175 fresh recoveries today, with the total now standing at 340,242.
There are 186 Covid-19 patients in intensive care, of whom 81 are intubated.
Dr Noor Hisham said four deaths were logged today, with two in Selangor, and one each in Sabah and Sarawak.
Malaysia has a total of 1,435 clusters, including four new ones today.
A total of 1,087 clusters have ended, including 10 today, namely the Sg Lembing, Kg Gedang, Jalan Bukit Blossoms, Singgahmata, Mayang Pasir, Ladang Sg Pin, Jalan Pahang, Jalan Mawar, Lorong Bakau and Sg Batu construction clusters.
Of the 348 active clusters, 47 recorded new cases. The cluster with the highest number of fresh infections is the Jalan Harapan cluster (89), followed by the Perusahaan Perai Tiga cluster (60) and Parit Raja Industrial cluster (38).
Dr Noor Hisham said three out of the four new clusters are related to workplaces.
Selangor’s Jalan Taming cluster in Petaling and Hulu Langat logged nine cases, while Pulau Pinang’s Perusahaan Perai Tiga cluster in Seberang Prai logged 66.
Johor’s Parit Raja industry cluster in Batu Pahat recorded 38 cases, while Pahang’s Padang Maggis cluster registered 10. – The Vibes, April 8, 2021
