KUALA LUMPUR – The Home Ministry will look into the authenticity of a recently leaked audio recording and details of an alleged conversation between PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said his ministry will investigate all reports received.
“Of course, we will investigate all the reports handed in to us.
“Firstly, we will look into the authenticity (of the recording) and what was said (in it).
“If there is no conversation, then it means the story that was spun is slander.”
Hamzah has heard the recording.
“There are two things here: Firstly, the conversation and whether it is real. Secondly, thee conversation and what was said in it. Am I right?”
Yesterday, Zahid had denied the conversation with “Anwar” as contained in the leaked audio recording, saying his officer will lodge a report to enable an investigation to identify the culprit behind the clip.
On the repatriation of Myanmar nationals, Hamzah said the government will extradite any convicted foreign national who has completed his or her sentence.
“Foreign nationals found guilty here, when it is time for us to send them home, we will send them home.
“Why should we detain (foreign) people in the country after finishing their sentence… and bear additional costs of RM30 a day per person?”
It was reported that Malaysia had repatriated 1,200 Myanmar refugees, including asylum seekers and other detainees, by handing them over to a Myanmar naval vessel waiting to bring them home.
This is despite the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision to temporary stay the controversial plan.
The move was criticised by human rights groups trying to stop the deportation via legal means on the basis that it will endanger the refugees’ lives. – Bernama, April 8, 2021
