KUALA LUMPUR – The Master Builders’ Association Malaysia (MBAM) and its affiliated groups have requested that the government grant them more time to comply with amendments to the Employees’ Minimum Standards of Housing, Accommodation and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446).
They are appealing for a one-year grace period.
In a statement today, MBAM said this will enable the industry to be better prepared.
It cited a number of issues involving Act 446, such as the long approval period for temporary building permit or certificate of accommodation applications made via the Human Resources Ministry portal.
“This was one of the issues raised at a recently held dialogue session involving more than 40 representatives.”
It said another concern is the double levy that the construction sector needs to pay to the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and Human Resources Development Fund for training purposes.
MBAM said it attended an engagement session with the ministry on March 30, and hopes that its appeal on the matter will be taken into consideration.
