KUALA LUMPUR – The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) will be enforced in four Sabah areas from tomorrow until April 23 to curb the spread of Covid-19 and enable the Health Ministry to conduct targeted screening.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in a statement today, said the localities are Kg Gayang in Tuaran, and the Industrial Training Institute (ILP), Taman Permata and Taman Seri Labuk in Sandakan.
He said the ministry conducted 38 tests in Kg Gayang, which led to the discovery of five infections, while 88 tests were done at the ILP, with seven cases recorded.
“The ministry conducted nine tests in Taman Permata, which returned five positive results, while five cases were reported in Taman Seri Labuk out of six tests conducted.”
He said the EMCO at two illegal immigrant detention centres, namely the Home Ministry’s Setia Tropika Complex and Johor Baru’s Sultan Iskandar Immigration Department Building, will end tomorrow.
Of the 83 tests conducted at the Setia Tropika Complex, 61 infections were logged, he said.
“The ministry confirmed no new cases, with the last reported case on March 29, making for a total of 59 cases.”
As for the Immigration Department building, he said the last infection there was detected on March 28, making for a total of 51 cases.
Ismail Sabri said 94 individuals were detained for violating movement controls, with 93 issued compounds and one remanded.
He said 14 illegal immigrants were arrested yesterday under Op Benteng, with seven land vehicles seized. – Bernama, April 9, 2021
