GEORGE TOWN – A baby boy was found abandoned at the doorsteps of the Family Planning Association office in Jelutong last night, and police are seeking witnesses in the case.
The infant, wrapped in a green towel, was found crying about 6pm by an association staffer.
Another colleague helped buy diapers for the child before feeding the boy some formula milk, after the police were notified.
Emergency responders rushed the child to Penang Hospital upon seeing that he may have jaundice.
Northeast district police head Soffian Santong said while a partial fingerprint was retrieved at the scene, it was not enough to help further in the investigation.
This is believed to be the first such case of an abandoned baby found this year in Penang.
Police said the closest CCTV to the building is at a nearby Chinese temple, but it was not operational at the time of the incident.
Police are seeking the help of the public, and urge those with information on the incident to contact the police at 019 5641822 or the nearest police station.
Soffian also urged the mother of the child to come forward as the authorities want to help the family, especially the immediate parents of the infant. – The Vibes, April 11, 2021
