SIK – The audio clip of a conversation between two individuals said to be PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has not affected relationships between parties in the Perikatan Nasional government.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said strong ties still exist between allies in the ruling coalition, adding that nothing has changed as a result of any incident related to the individuals concerned.

“Within the coalition, we have parties and party leaders, and relations between individuals or leaders will not affect the organisation, and the good relationship between the parties is still maintained. That is the situation now.”

He said this when asked whether the audio issue will affect PAS-Umno ties.

In the four-minute 17-second audio recording, which has gone viral, a voice similar to Anwar is heard, among others, commending Zahid on his speech at the recent Umno general assembly via a phone call.

Takiyuddin said the matter will be handed over to the authorities for further action should a report be lodged.

“I’m confident that if there is a need to investigate, the inspector-general of police will do so. In fact, he said it will be investigated... I’m sure the authorities will carry out their duties professionally and without bias.” – Bernama, April 11, 2021
