KUANTAN – Police seized 30 cars believed to have been used in illegal racing, in Taman Perindustrian Indera Mahkota 14 here yesterday.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) principal assistant director (enforcement) Bakri Zainal Abidin said the 5pm operation found that a 250m stretch in the industrial park was used as a racetrack.
“It was also found that all the vehicles involved in the activity had been modified to boost their acceleration and maximum speeds.
“Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the races involved betting. It was not the first time that the ‘racers’ had gathered there,” he told reporters at the Kuantan traffic police station last night.
He said the integrated operation by seven officers and 25 personnel from the Bukit Aman JSPT, Pahang police contingent headquarters and Kuantan district police headquarters saw five teenagers detained for driving without a licence.
Officers also nabbed several women and children who were at the site to watch the race, he said, but they were released after the documentation process.
The case is being investigated under Section 81(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Bakri added that police are investigating whether movement restrictions to contain Covid-19 were breached. – Bernama, April 12, 2021
