KUALA LUMPUR – A young girl suffered bites to the head and body when she was attacked by two stray dogs in Seksyen 2, Wangsa Maju, about 5.30pm yesterday.

Her mother, Norhafizah Abdul Ghafar, said Syauqina Rifqa Sarnizam, 11, had just come home from religious school when she saw dogs lurking near her pet rabbit’s cage.

“She had just arrived in front of the house and, at the same time, I heard dogs barking. She wanted to shoo them away but I didn’t permit it and told her to wait.

“But she went to shoo them and after a few seconds, I heard her screaming,” Norhafizah said, adding that she then found her daughter lying face down on the ground with two dogs beside her.

“I tried to shoo them away but they refused to budge. They only ran away after my husband chased them,” she added.

Norhafizah said the dogs bit Syauqina on the head, left arm, right leg and back.

She said a neighbour helped take Syauqina to Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan before she was transferred to Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur for further treatment.

Norhafizah said there is a stray dog problem in her neighbourhood, and she has filed complaints with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) since last year.

She said her husband will file another complaint and urge DBKL to deal with this problem to prevent another attack. – Bernama, April 14, 2021
