KUALA LUMPUR – Kelantan’s Maahad Tahfiz Sains Tanah Merah will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from tomorrow until May 2, following a spike in Covid-19 cases at the school, said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“The Health Ministry has conducted 396 (coronavirus) tests so far, and 43 returned positive results,” he said in a statement this evening.
“The EMCO will facilitate mass screening by the ministry.”
He said the EMCO imposed on Kg Belaoh, Kg PPRT Belaoh Baru, Kg Keruak, Kg Pak Sik and Felcra Keruak in Hulu Besut, Terengganu, is extended by seven days to April 27.
“The ministry has conducted 2,038 tests, with 103 infections detected.
“It said the virus is still spreading among residents in the EMCO area, with the results for 309 samples pending.”
He said 158 individuals were arrested for violating movement controls yesterday, with 131 compounded and 27 remanded.
Eight land vehicles were seized and 10 illegal immigrants “chased away” under Op Benteng, he added. – Bernama, April 18, 2021
