KUALA LUMPUR – Closing Ramadan bazaars is “the last option” to be taken should Covid-19 cases increase dramatically, said Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
“If possible, we want to encourage traders to conduct business till the end of Ramadan. That’s why we all need to comply with the SOPs and pray there are no cases related to Ramadan bazaars in the Federal Territories,” Bernama reported him as telling the press after inspecting the Datuk Keramat Ramadan bazaar here today.
He said popular stalls are advised to implement a “numbered pass system” to ensure customers observe social distancing.
“For such stalls, we urge the (bazaar) committee to discuss with the stall operators on how to improve customers’ compliance (with the SOPs), because we still see crowding.
“Ensure only customers with numbers line up, and only after they have been attended to should others be let in.”
He said the ministry encourages the public to practise self-monitoring.
“But, we also need to issue reminders. In some places, perhaps loudspeakers can be used for this purpose.” – Bernama, April 18, 2021
