PUTRAJAYA – The festive season price-control scheme for Hari Raya Aidilfitri will be implemented for 30 days starting Wednesday, involving 12 types of goods.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, announcing the scheme today, said it will send a message to producers, wholesalers and retailers that the government is empowered, under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, to implement price controls in the public’s best interest.
“Although the festival will be celebrated in moderation, with (Covid-19) standard operating procedures in place, demand for goods during the period… is expected to increase,” he told the press here today.
The 12 items in the scheme involve four categories, namely chicken, chicken egg, meat and seafood.
The chicken category covers live chicken, standard chicken (slaughtered and cleaned with legs, head, liver and gizzard, or any part thereof) and super chicken (slaughtered and cleaned without legs, head, liver and gizzard).
The meat category covers local beef (maximum price in the peninsula and Sabah only), imported beef (maximum price in Sarawak only) and imported buffalo meat (maximum price in the peninsula, Sabah and Labuan only).
The chicken egg category covers Grade A eggs (weighing between 65.0g and 69.9g each); Grade B (weighing between 60.0g and 64.9g each) and Grade C (weighing between 55.0g and 59.9g each).
The seafood category covers mackerel, including ikan mabung (7 to 10 fish per kg), as well as ikan selayang (7 to 10 fish per kg) and ikan aya, or tongkol (1 to 2 fish per kg).
He said more items will be added to the list as Aidilfitri draws near.
