KUALA LUMPUR – A judicial review has been granted to SMK Convent Bukit Nanas (CBN) on the government’s decision not to extend the school’s land lease.
High court judge Datuk Noorin Badarin set May 4 to hear the school’s application for a stay pending the disposal of the judicial review.
The school was represented by lawyers Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram, Damien Chan, Yasmeen Soh, Ian Hannibal, and William Lee appeared, while federal counsel Kogilambigai appeared on behalf of the attorney-general.
Established in 1899, CBN is an all-girls school situated along Jalan Bukit Nanas here.
In 1961, the Ruler in Council had granted the school a state lease, which expires on September 6, this year.
CBN had also made an oral application to substitute the respondent, who is the Federal Territories’ Land and Mines director, to the Land Executive Committee for the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. – The Vibes, April 19, 2021
