PORT DICKSON – The word “Allah” is sacred and specifically for use by Muslims, not followers of other religions, said Negri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council chairman Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Ab Kadir.
To maintain harmony and unity in the state, and respect the sensitivities of every citizen and religion, non-Muslims are advised to heed the law, and Muslims, to adhere to the gazetted fatwa on the use of the word, he told reporters here.
He referred to the fatwa in the state gazetted on September 14, 2016, requiring Muslims to use the word “Allah” carefully.
“If there are elements of insult or abuse, action must be taken in accordance with the law, as enshrined in the federal constitution.”
He said there is a law in Negri Sembilan, formulated based on Article 11(4) of the constitution, to deal with the issue, and cited the state enactment on the control and restriction of the propagation of other religions among Muslims, namely Enactment No.9/1991.
The enactment lists a total of 36 words, including “Allah”, that are prohibited to and cannot be associated with religions other than Islam. – Bernama, April 21, 2021
