KOTA KINABALU – Five schools here have recorded Covid-19 cases, said Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

In a statement today, he said the schools are SJK (C) Shan Tao and SM Shan Tao with three cases each, SJK (C) Chung Hwa (2), and SJK (C) Chung Hwa Likas and SK Lok Yu (1 each).

“There are allegations that schools in Kota Kinabalu and Penampang have recorded Covid-19 cases, when in fact, only five schools (in Kota Kinabalu) have recorded cases.”

He said the other four education institutions named in a message that has gone viral – SJK (C) Yue Min and Yue Min Kindergarten in Penampang, and SJK (C) St James and Menggatal Lok Yuk Kindergarten here – do not have coronavirus infections.

He said 160 new infections were recorded in the state today, taking its total to 57,324.

A new cluster was detected in Kota Sawit, Kinabatangan, with 14 cases.

“The index case is an employee of a palm oil factory who tested positive on April 13. Close-contact tracing found 13 more cases,” said Masidi.

The factory has been shut and its workers quarantined. – Bernama, April 22, 2021
