KUALA LUMPUR – The Education Ministry has been urged to investigate and take action against a secondary school teacher who allegedly made “rape jokes” to students during a discussion on sexual harassment.
Former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said stern action must be taken against the teacher if it is confirmed that the incident took place.
The teacher’s conduct is a serious matter, as it reflects the permissibility of such offences, the Pandan MP was reported as saying by The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister portal Getaran.
“Action must be taken so that incidents like this do not happen again, especially in schools, which should be the most sacrosanct and safe space for any student.
“It is not appropriate for a male teacher to cultivate such behaviour, as if he is using obscene language to ‘teach’ male students.
“This shows a disrespectful attitude towards women, to the point of ‘permitting’ the crime of rape, even if in the form of a joke.”
A female Form 5 student, in TikTok and Twitter posts on Friday, revealed the behaviour of the educator, who was covering the topic of sexual harassment during a physical and health education class.

The teacher allegedly used obscene words, and purportedly said rape is “allowed” if it is committed against individuals aged 18 and above.
The student also shared a screenshot of a message sent to her school counsellor, who apparently did not take the matter seriously.
The teenager then informed her father, Saiful Nizam Ab Wahab, of the matter, and he lodged a police report last night.
The teen’s revelation has caught the attention of various parties, including former education minister Maszlee Malik and former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
Maszlee, who is also Pakatan Harapan education committee chairman, said the school principal must take the issue seriously as the crime of rape is no laughing matter.
“Please conduct an investigation into this serious incident, as well as the teacher involved,” he tweeted yesterday.
“Rape is not a joke, and teachers must emphasise safety, not the other way around.”
Sg Buloh district police chief Shafaaton Abu Bakar, in a statement today, said the authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter following a report lodged, and will call up witnesses.
