KUALA LUMPUR – A RM102,560 suit by a travel company against Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s three children over unpaid bills will go into mediation, reported The Edge.

Adam Yap, the lawyer representing YHA Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd, was quoted as saying that the mediation applies only to the suit relating to the three individuals, not the one against Azmin.

The company is seeking RM167,332 from the senior minister.

This was decided during case management before sessions court judge Lailatul Zuraida Harron @ Harun yesterday. A date for the suit against Azmin has yet to be scheduled.

The suit against the trio was re-filed in September last year, after Azmin’s daughter, Farah Syazlina, paid her RM8,510 bill.

According to the company’s statement of claim, Azmin has been its customer for 20 years and will usually pay his bills within three to four months.

However, in this case, the outstanding payment dragged on.

The company submitted that the outstanding payments are for family trips made between September 10, 2018, and August 5, 2019, to Marrakesh in Morocco; London in the United Kingdom; Jakarta in Indonesia; the Gold Coast in Australia; Dubai in the United Arab Emirates; Geneva in Switzerland; Bangkok in Thailand; Barcelona in Spain; as well as Singapore and Santorini.

It also provided Azmin’s itineraries for trips to Hanoi in Vietnam and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, between September 14 and 16, 2018, and Sandakan, Sabah, on May 10 and 11, 2019.

The Edge also reported that Azmin had filed a counterclaim, saying the travel company’s majority shareholder, Yasmin Hanim Arbee, and her husband, executive chairman Datuk Mohd Ayub Hassan, are the parents of one Mohd Haziq Hassan.

In the counterclaim, Azmin said Haziq Hassan had been arrested for his link to a purported sex video that allegedly featured the Gombak MP and another individual.

He alleged that YHA’s statement of claim was leaked to the Sarawak Report.

Azmin seeks costs, damages and other relief deemed necessary by the court.

He admitted liability to the owed sum accrued by him and his children under the age of 20, which he said amounted to RM162,272.

However, he added that his children above the age of 20 will have to pay the owed sum themselves. – The Vibes, April 27, 2021
