KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today logged another 2,733 Covid-19 cases as the country nears 14 straight days of more than 2,000 daily infections.
The Health Ministry reported 13 new deaths, making for a total of 1,462 fatalities since the pandemic began.
The new cases take the national tally to 398,451, of which 25,414 infections are active.
Selangor has the most fresh coronavirus cases with 750, followed by Kelantan (484), Sarawak (432) and Kuala Lumpur (377).
As of today, Selangor has a total of 129,523 infections. Sabah is a distant second with 57,829.
Johor has 220 new infections, followed by Penang (115), Sabah (82), Terengganu (61), Kedah (51), Negri Sembilan (39), Perak (38), Pahang (35), Melaka (33), Putrajaya (15) and Perlis (1).
Labuan did not record new cases today.
The ministry announced 11 new clusters – four linked to education institutions, community and workplace (3 each), and high-risk group (1).
It said there are another 2,019 recoveries, pushing up the total to 371,575.
Of the 294 Covid-19 patients in intensive care, 138 are intubated.
The Jalan Puchong cluster in Sepang and Petaling involves a staff and students of a school where 21 cases were reported.
The Persiaran Setia Murni cluster in Petaling, Kuala Selangor and Klang affects staff and students of a school in Setia Alam. Of the 493 individuals screened, 14 tested positive.
Gombak and Sepang’s Jalan Sejati cluster involves staff and students of an education institution in Selayang Baru, where 42 tested positive.
The Cangkat Minden cluster in Penang’s Timur Laut district saw 14 staff and students infected after an influenza-like illness case was recorded on April 21.
As for workplace clusters, the Jalan Padang Tembak cluster (Kota Baru and Bachok, Kelantan) involves factory workers, of which 37 have been infected.
The Jalan Kempas Muar cluster in Johor also affected factory workers in Muar’s Bakri subdistrict. Of the 452 individuals screened, 67 were infected.
The Teknologi Ayeh Keroh cluster in Melaka Tengah, Jasin and Alor Gajah has affected workers at the Air Keroh Phase 4 industrial park. Some 320 people were screened and 21 were found positive.
The Sg Tuah community cluster in Kanowit, Sarawak has 31 cases, whereas the Bandar Baru Sentul cluster in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur recorded 12 infections. The Akar Peluru community cluster in Kota Setar, Pendang and Yan, Kedah logged 16 cases after screening 52 individuals.
Lastly, the Jalan Bukit Emas cluster in Seremban, Negri Sembilan affects workers and residents at a seniors’ care home. Of the 22 individuals screened, 19 tested positive. – The Vibes, April 27, 2021
